Arrest of a Mentally Ill Individual for Distorting the Quran in Daykundi

The Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice of the Taliban in Daykundi has announced the arrest of an individual for distorting the Quran.

Today, Thursday, February 6, the Ministry stated that an individual was arrested from the Miramor district of Daykundi for the crime of distorting the Quran.

The Ministry added that the individual is a resident of the “Rabat” village of Miramor and had distorted the Quran under the instructions of a person from Kabul.

At the same time, reliable sources from the area say that this individual, named “Sarwar Fahimi,” has been suffering from mental disorders for some time, and the Taliban’s moral police arrested him yesterday from his home in Rabat village.

According to the sources, yesterday, several local elders visited the Miramor district and requested his release, but these efforts were unsuccessful.

The sources further mention that his level of education in religious sciences is only at the basic level, and in recent years, he has been experiencing mental health issues.

The sources add that he had been claiming at every gathering that the existing copy of the Quran is incorrect.

After taking power, the Taliban launched an extensive campaign for cultural and religious unification.
