Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has traveled to Germany after a year of travel restrictions.
According to Radio Azadi and sources close to former President Hamid Karzai, Mr. Karzai departed for Germany on a medical trip today, Monday, May 20.
Prince Massoud, a close associate of Mr. Karzai, told Radio Azadi that Mr. Karzai traveled to Germany this morning for treatment.
The report also quotes another source, who wished to remain anonymous, stating that Mr. Karzai had been invited by Germany, China, Iran, and several other countries over the past year, but the current authorities had not allowed him to travel.
Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah are among the few senior officials of the former republic who remain in Kabul.
