
The construction work for the second phase of the fourth section of the Herat-Khawaf railway has begun
The Taliban authorities in Herat have inaugurated the construction work for the second phase of the fourth section of the Herat-Khawaf railway.
Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat, the head of the Taliban-managed railway authority, announced today, Sunday, May 26, that the construction work for the second phase of the fourth section of the Herat-Khawaf railway has been contracted to “Gama Group” for a value of 53 million USD.
Sharafat added that this phase, spanning 47 kilometers from the village of “Paryan” in the Zinda Jan district to Herat Airport, will be completed within one and a half years.
The Herat-Khawaf railway, stretching 266 kilometers, connects Afghanistan to Iran’s railway network.
Three of the four sections of this railway have been built by Iran, with one section inside Afghanistan divided into two phases. The construction of the first phase of the fourth section within Afghanistan began in 2020.
