Taliban Foreign Ministry: The action of the International Criminal Court prosecutor is unfounded and politically motivated

The Taliban Foreign Ministry, in response to the request made by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court for the arrest of the Taliban leader and the chief justice on charges of crimes against humanity, has called it legally baseless and a political move, condemning it.

In a statement issued on Friday, January 24 , the ministry said that the request for the arrest of the group’s leaders lacks legal grounds, is based on a double standard, and is a political act.

The Taliban Foreign Ministry condemned these allegations against its senior leaders in the statement.

The statement further notes that these accusations are being made while “security has been fully established in Afghanistan, the people are living in peace, private prisons, kidnappings, the power monopoly of warlords, and many other inhumane acts have been eradicated.”

The International Criminal Court is accused in the statement of turning a blind eye to the crimes committed by foreign forces and their local allies over the past 20 years in Afghanistan.

The Taliban Foreign Ministry criticized the credibility and prestige of the International Criminal Court, asserting that such misguided actions undermine the institution’s international standing.

The ministry also claimed that the International Criminal Court is trying to impose a specific interpretation of human rights on the world’s people without considering their national and religious values.

On Thursday, January 23 , Karim Khan, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, announced the filing of a request for the arrest of Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, the group’s chief justice.
