Taliban Foreign Minister Meets with Norwegian Embassy Charge d’Affaires to Discuss Diplomatic Relations Expansion

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban, today met with Pierre Albert Alsace, the Charge d’Affaires of the Norwegian Embassy in Kabul, to discuss the expansion of diplomatic relations between the two parties.

Zia Ahmad Takal, the deputy spokesperson for the Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in a declaration posted on the social media platform X on Monday, February 10, that the meeting took place in Kabul. He added that both sides discussed positive engagement and the expansion of diplomatic relations, expressing hope that these relations would be further strengthened in the future.

Takal quoted the Norwegian Charge d’Affaires as saying that his country will continue its engagement with the Taliban. He also described Afghanistan’s security situation as “good” and the Taliban’s fight against narcotics as “effective.”

According to the statement, Amir Khan Muttaqi emphasized during the meeting that the Taliban seeks international relations based on mutual respect. He stated, “Regional and global countries should cooperate with the people of Afghanistan in economic growth and development.”

Norway has maintained contact with the Taliban since their return to power in Afghanistan. The country has hosted several Taliban officials, including Amir Khan Muttaqi, at various international meetings.

This meeting reflects the Taliban’s efforts to improve international relations and garner global support for Afghanistan’s economic development.
