Taliban: 91 Afghan Migrants Freed from Pakistani Prisons and Deported to Afghanistan
The Taliban Ministry of Refugees has announced the release and deportation of 91 Afghan citizens from Pakistani prisons and their return to Afghanistan.
In a statement released today, Friday, February 21, the Ministry of Refugees announced that 10 families, consisting of 33 individuals, along with 58 other individuals, were returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham border yesterday.
According to the statement, these individuals had been detained in Pakistan for “lack of legal residence documents.”
The Ministry of Refugees emphasized that the return of these individuals followed diplomatic efforts, but no further details were provided regarding the duration of their detention.
The Torkham border, one of the main crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan, has recently seen a significant number of Afghan migrants without residence documents being returned. This comes as thousands of Afghans have been forced to leave Pakistan after the country’s intensified anti-migration policies last year.
