Taliban Flog a Woman and a Man in Ghazni
The Taliban’s Supreme Court announced that a man and a woman were flogged in Ghazni province on charges of “extramarital relations.”
According to a statement released by the court on Sunday,March 23, the punishment was carried out in the Dih Yak district of Ghazni.
The statement noted that each defendant was sentenced to five years in prison and 39 lashes.
This incident comes amid the Taliban’s intensified enforcement of public punishments, including flogging, stoning, and execution, as part of their judicial policies since taking control of Afghanistan. Human rights organizations and international institutions have repeatedly raised concerns over widespread human rights violations, particularly targeting women’s rights and the Taliban’s use of violent punishments.
The Taliban’s actions continue to draw condemnation from global human rights advocates, though no local reactions to this specific ruling have been reported yet. Such sentences often spark significant criticism on social media and in international outlets.
