The Taliban Reject Trump’s Claim of Billions of Dollars Sent by the U.S. to the Taliban
Following Donald Trump’s remarks last night regarding the transfer of billions of dollars to the Taliban by the Biden administration, a spokesperson for the Taliban rejected the claim.
Hamdullah Fetrat, the deputy spokesman for the Taliban, stated today (Thursday, January 8, in a statement that the U.S. has not only failed to provide any assistance to the Taliban, but has also blocked billions of dollars in Afghanistan’s funds.
In the statement, he claimed that the aid the U.S. refers to was only used for the expenses of withdrawing American troops and their Afghan partners.
Mr. Fetrat also added that the Taliban does not expect any help from the U.S. and has never requested assistance from this country.
These statements from the Taliban come at a time when critics of the group, especially women, view U.S. cash assistance to Afghanistan as strengthening the Taliban’s power and financially supporting the group, repeatedly calling for the cessation of such aid.
