
Mawlawi Abdul Kabir was dismissed from his position
Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, who was serving as the Deputy Political Head of the Taliban’s Prime Minister’s Office, has been removed from his position and appointed as the Minister of Refugees and Repatriates.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban, wrote in a post on the social media platform X late yesterday, Thursday, January 9, that, by the order of the Taliban leader, he has been appointed as the Minister of Refugees.
Mawlawi Abdul Kabir will replace Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani at the Ministry of Refugees, who was killed in a suicide attack at the ministry’s compound on the 11 December 2024.
Mawlawi Abdul Kabir is a prominent figure close to the Taliban leader and, over the past three years, has effectively served as the group’s Prime Minister due to the old age and illness of Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund (the Prime Minister).
He was responsible for chairing important cabinet meetings and meeting with foreign officials and delegations on behalf of the Taliban.
