Former Police Commander Killed in Kandahar

Local sources in Kandahar report that the Taliban have killed a former local police commander of the previous government in the Arghandab district of the province.

According to these sources, the Taliban killed the former military officer last night (Saturday, February 1, 2025) in the “Mianjoy” area of Arghandab district.

Reports indicate that the deceased was a prominent local police commander during the previous government who had been living at home since the Taliban came to power.

On the other hand, Mullah Asadullah Jamshed, the Taliban police spokesperson in Kandahar, stated that clashes occurred yesterday (February 1, 2025) between Taliban forces and “an armed individual” in the Mianjoy area of Arghandab district, resulting in one person killed and another arrested.

He did not provide further details about the identity of the deceased.

Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, despite the group’s leader announcing a general amnesty for former government military personnel, targeted killings and arrests of ex-soldiers have continued.

In many cases, the Taliban are held responsible for these killings, but they claim to remain committed to their leader’s general amnesty order.

These incidents have raised concerns about the safety and situation of former military personnel in Afghanistan.
