Border Clash Between Taliban and Pakistani Forces in Torkham; One Taliban Member Killed
The Taliban’s Interior Ministry confirmed that during last night’s border clashes between the group’s forces and Pakistani military personnel in the Torkham region, one Taliban member was killed and two others were wounded. The clashes occurred amid the closure of the Torkham border crossing, which has been shut for ten days due to disputes between the two sides over the construction of border facilities.
Abdul Matin Qane, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Interior Ministry, stated that the clashes began at midnight last night and continued until 11 a.m. today (Monday، march 3th). He claimed that Pakistani border guards initiated the gunfire, prompting a response from Taliban border police and army forces.
Qane reported that during the clashes, “several Pakistani border posts were destroyed, and casualties were inflicted on forces from the other side.” He did not specify the cause of the conflict but emphasized that “the issue has now been resolved.”
Pakistan had previously announced the closure of the Torkham crossing in protest of Taliban construction activities in sensitive border areas. This crossing, one of the most critical routes for travel and trade between the two countries, has been closed to traffic for ten days, with negotiations to reopen it remaining unsuccessful so far.
Currently, the situation at the Torkham border is reported to be calm. However, the continued closure of this vital crossing has imposed significant economic and humanitarian impacts on residents on both sides of the border.
