The activities of Begum Radio have been suspended by the Taliban

The Ministry of Information and Culture of the Taliban announced that it has suspended the operations of Radio Begum due to violations of regulations.

The ministry stated in a press release today, Tuesday, February 4, that the radio’s activities have been suspended for misusing its broadcasting license and producing content for a television station based abroad.

The press release added that a decision regarding the resumption or permanent cessation of the radio’s operations will be made after a review of the documents and evidence.

Radio Begum is a shortwave radio station founded by Wahida Aman on March 8, 2021, and it produced programs focused on women’s awareness.

Since returning to power, the Taliban have imposed severe restrictions and censorship on media outlets. Many media organizations have either been shut down by the Taliban or have been unable to continue their journalistic activities due to intense censorship and restrictions.
