Taliban Flog Five People in Sar-e Pol and Paktika

The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that on Sunday of this week, flogging sentences were carried out on five individuals in the provinces of Sar-e Pol and Paktika.

According to statements released today (Tuesday, May 6), the individuals were tried and punished on charges of gambling and using counterfeit money.

The court stated that four people in the Gosfandi district of Sar-e Pol province were each sentenced to 25 lashes and one and a half years of imprisonment.

Additionally, another individual in the Urgun district of Paktika province was sentenced to 16 lashes and 16 months of imprisonment.

Since returning to power, the Taliban have repeatedly carried out flogging and so far, at least ten people have been executed in public by the group.

Human rights organizations have condemned such punishments as violations of international law and human dignity, repeatedly calling for their cessation.
