Floods in Nangarhar: One Killed, 32 Injured

According to local sources, recent heavy rainfall, storms, and flooding in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, have claimed the life of one person and left at least 32 others injured.

Quraishi Badloon, the head of information at the Taliban’s Directorate of Information and Culture in Nangarhar, confirmed the incident, saying the disasters occurred on Thursday, May 8, following severe downpours.

According to Badloon, in addition to human casualties, the storm and flooding have caused extensive damage to residents in Jalalabad city and several districts of the province. He stated that dozens of houses in Kama, Khogyani, Bihsud, Goshta, and other districts were damaged, and hundreds of hectares of agricultural land — including wheat fields, vegetable plots, and watermelon farms — were destroyed.

Local residents reported that the storms also led to power outages and disruptions in telecommunication services in Jalalabad, causing significant hardship in daily life.

Officials noted that the districts of Kama, Khogyani, and Jalalabad city suffered the most damage. Relief teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to assess the damage and provide assistance.

Residents said they have suffered heavy losses due to the floods and are calling on the Taliban authorities and aid organizations for urgent help.
