The body of a former local police officer from the previous government, beheaded, was found in Kandahar

Local sources in Kandahar report that the beheaded body of a former member of the local police from the previous government was discovered after several days of being missing in the Ainomina area of Kandahar city.

According to sources who wished to remain anonymous, Waliullah, who had a history of working with the local police under the previous government, was kidnapped from his home on the 27th of Ramadan (around a week ago). His body was found today (Tuesday, April 1st), beheaded, in the Ainomina district of Kandahar.

Local sources emphasized that he was killed by “unknown individuals” after being abducted. The motive and identity of those responsible for the murder are still unclear.

Local Taliban officials in Kandahar have not yet commented on the incident.

This comes amid numerous reports of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and the disappearance of former members of the security forces from the previous republic since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021.

The Taliban have repeatedly been accused by international organizations and human rights groups of systematically eliminating their opponents.

Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, in his recent report to the Security Council, warned that the killing of former Afghan military personnel and officials continues “even months after the Taliban came to power.”
