Taliban Flog Four People in Kabul

The Supreme Court of the Taliban has announced that four individuals, including two women and two men, were flogged in public in the Shakardara district of Kabul on charges of “illicit relations,” “running away from home,” and “adultery.”

According to a statement, the punishment was carried out on Wednesday, February 19, in the Shakardara district.

The statement further mentioned that two of the convicted individuals received 38 lashes, while the other two received 39 lashes. Additionally, two of them were sentenced to one year and six months in prison, and the other two to one year in jail.

The statement added that this sentence was issued based on the ruling of the Shakardara Primary Court in Kabul and was carried out in the presence of the public.

Since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban has repeatedly carried out corporal punishments, including flogging and executing six individuals in front of hundreds of spectators in public.

International human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned the implementation of corporal punishments and public executions by the Taliban as violations of international law and human rights standards, calling for an immediate halt to these actions.

These organizations emphasize that such punishments not only violate human dignity but are also in contradiction with the principles of fair trial.
