Based on local sources in Badakhshan, following yesterday’s protests on Tuesday, May 13th, in the village of “Barlas” in the Argu district, Taliban forces detained at least fifty protesters and transported them by helicopter to the center of Fayzabad.
Some sources have reported the number of detainees as sixty, adding that during yesterday’s protests, the Taliban had cut off access to telecommunications networks.
The media office of Faction 219, “Omar Sales,” in Badakhshan also announced in a statement the detention of those mentioned as instigators in this statement and stated that the protests have ended.
The statement, citing Mohbobullah Hamed, the commander of this faction, states: “People have returned to their homes and the destruction of poppy fields continues.”
According to reports from local sources in Badakhshan, during yesterday’s protests, three people were killed and at least thirteen others were injured due to Taliban gunfire.
This comes as ten days ago, two people were killed in Argu and Darayem districts due to Taliban gunfire.
Following this event, the Taliban dispatched a delegation led by Fasihuddin Fetrat to Badakhshan and claimed to have reached an agreement with the local people and announced the resolution of the issue.
