Some Shia scholars urged the Taliban to govern without discrimination during a meeting.
According to reports from Toloo News, during a session with the presence of the Taliban in western Kabul, some Shia scholars stated that the Taliban should refrain from discrimination in governance.
The report quoted a prominent scholar named Bazl as saying: “The elders of the Islamic Emirate and the scholars leading this emirate should think religiously in Afghanistan without discrimination, prejudice, and personal inclinations, according to the Islamic system.”
According to the report, the Taliban’s Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice also attended this session.
After coming to power, the Taliban have imposed many restrictions against Shia Muslims, including the cancellation of the Personal Status Law, prohibition of teaching Jaafari jurisprudence in universities, restrictions on holding religious ceremonies of Ashura and obligatory iftar for fasting individuals last year.
The Taliban have so far not heeded the demands and requests of Shia scholars and have rejected them. Some time ago, Ayatollah Wa’ezzadeh Bahsudi, one of the Shia sources of emulation, had strongly criticized the Taliban’s behavior towards Shia Muslims.
