Resumption of protests in Badakhshan; at least one person killed by security forces shooting

Reports from Badakhshan indicate that at least one person was killed and several others injured as a result of shooting by Taliban forces at people during the destruction of poppy cultivation in the Argu district.

 

According to reports, after lunch on Tuesday, May 24th, anti-narcotics forces of the Taliban clashed with residents of the village of “Berlas” in the jurisdiction of the Argu district over the destruction of poppy cultivation, resulting in casualties.

 

Some reports mention three killed and five injured, while others report one killed and thirteen injured.

 

Reports also indicate that after the shooting, people protested against the Taliban.

 

So far, more details about this event are not available, and Taliban authorities have not commented on the matter.

 

This comes as nine days ago, protests erupted in the Argu and Darayim districts as a result of Taliban shooting at protesters, resulting in two deaths.

 

It is worth mentioning that yesterday, Monday, May 23rd, Abdullah Motin, the spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, announced that the ministry had cleared 262 jeribs of land from poppy cultivation in Badakhshan.
