Donald Trump: I will rescue Afghan refugees trapped in the United Arab Emirates
US President Donald Trump has made the latest announcement that he will rescue Afghan refugees trapped in the United Arab Emirates.
The US President made these statements on “Truth Social” on Sunday (July 19) by sharing a report on the situation of these refugees and wrote: “I will try to rescue them. I will start right now.”
The news website The News reported that the authorities of the United Arab Emirates, which have been sheltering the US’s Afghan allies for more than four years, have agreed to hand them over to the Taliban.
The media outlet added in its report that the decision has caused panic among Afghan refugees in the “Abu Dhabi Camp”, where they have been effectively held for the past four years.
According to the media outlet, UAE security officials have forced refugees to leave their homes and prepare to return to Afghanistan.
Following the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and the resurgence of the Taliban, thousands of US troops were transferred to the UAE to be processed before they could return to the United States.
But nearly four years later, these refugees remain in limbo and are now facing deportation to Afghanistan, according to The News.
Donald Trump has promised to rescue these refugees, even as he has taken sweeping anti-immigration measures since returning to power in the White House and recently revoked the temporary protected status of thousands of Afghan refugees in the United States.
A US appeals court has halted the implementation of this ruling and is currently preventing the Trump administration from deporting these refugees.
