45-year-old man marries six-year-old girl in Helmand

Local sources in Helmand province say that a 45-year-old man has married a six-year-old girl in the province.
At least two sources in Tahlawan media said that the girl’s family married her to the 45-year-old man in exchange for money.
The source confirmed that the man also has two other wives.
The marriage took place in Marjah district of Helmand.
Saif Khyber, spokesman for the Taliban’s Ministry of Good and Prevention of Evil, also wrote in X on Friday evening (July 26) that the girl had been married off to a 45-year-old man by her father in exchange for money. He added that the girl had been handed over by her father to the man who had married her off, but the Ministry of Good and Prevention of Evil officers intervened and arrested the 45-year-old man and the girl’s father. Since the Taliban returned to power in the country, cases of violence against women and girls, including forced marriages, have increased. Human rights organizations, including the United Nations, have repeatedly stated that child marriage among girls has increased due to poverty and the ban on education.
