Taliban Flog Four People, Including a Woman, in Faryab
The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that four individuals, including a woman, were flogged in Faryab province.
According to a statement released by the court, the punishment was carried out on Wednesday, May 28, after the individuals were convicted of charges including facilitating prostitution, extortion, and fraud.
The court specified that one of the convicts received a sentence of seven years in prison along with 35 lashes, another was sentenced to six years in prison and 35 lashes, while two others were each sentenced to five years in prison and 30 lashes.
The statement added that the corporal punishment was executed in the courtyard of the Faryab Court of Appeals.
Since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban has regularly carried out public floggings, often in venues such as sports stadiums. The group has also carried out public executions of at least ten people so far.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned public punishments as degrading and in violation of international law, urging the Taliban to put an end to such practices.
