EU: Over Half of Patients at Mazar-e-Sharif Rehabilitation Center Are Children
The European Union Delegation to Afghanistan has announced that 55% of the patients at the physical rehabilitation center in Mazar-e-Sharif are children.
In a statement published on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, May 17, the delegation stated that the center has provided rehabilitation services to over 30,000 people with disabilities.
The EU also reported that it is financially supporting a 20-bed drug rehabilitation center specifically for women and girls in Jawzjan province. The delegation described drug addiction as a major barrier to Afghanistan’s development and reiterated its commitment to standing by the Afghan people.
“This center restores dignity to women and promotes a life of worth,” the statement emphasized.
Meanwhile, Veronika Buschkovich Pohar, Chargé d’Affaires of the EU Delegation to Afghanistan, shared that she had visited northern Afghanistan to monitor EU-funded projects in Balkh and Jawzjan provinces. She affirmed the EU’s support for future generations to help them build their country.
This announcement comes at a time when a significant reduction in humanitarian aid has severely limited access to healthcare and essential services in Afghanistan—particularly for women and children.
