Taliban Leader: Poverty and Wealth Are from God; Be Content with Your Fate and Do Not Complain to Anyone
The leader of the Taliban, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, has stated that both poverty and wealth are from God, and Muslims should not complain to anyone about these matters.
Speaking during the Eid al-Fitr prayers in Kandahar today (Sunday, March 30), he emphasized that the wealthy should show compassion towards the poor, and the poor should be “content” and not complain about their situation.
The Taliban leader added, “The poor who are patient should say: God has destined that I be poor, so I am content with His decree. I believe in God, and He has determined my fate, so I have no complaints.”
These remarks come at a time when human rights organizations report that poverty levels in Afghanistan have been rapidly increasing since the Taliban returned to power, with millions of people in need of food and medical aid.
According to United Nations data, by 2025, 22.9 million Afghans will be dependent on foreign aid to meet basic life needs.
Additionally, 15 million people are in a state of food insecurity, including 3.5 million children and 1.2 million pregnant and breastfeeding women who are at risk of malnutrition.
While Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada attributes the issue of poverty and wealth to divine fate, international organizations emphasize the urgent need for action to address Afghanistan’s critical situation.
