Nasir Ahmad Faiq: Forced displacement of indigenous residents of Punjab, Bamyan is blatant oppression
Nasirah Ahmad Faiq, the head of Afghanistan’s mission to the United Nations, says that the forced displacement of indigenous residents of the village of “Rashk” in Punjab district, Bamyan is “blatant oppression” and is strongly condemned.
Mr. Faiq Rooz (Wednesday, August 28) wrote on the X user account: “The Taliban’s actions in forcibly displacing indigenous residents of Punjab district, Bamyan province and usurping their homes and lands in favor of nomads are not only a clear violation of the right to property and human dignity, but also contradict the clear teachings of Islam, the principles of social justice, and international obligations in the field of human rights.”
He added: “Islam respects legitimate ownership and strictly prohibits oppression, coercion, and illegal seizure of people’s property. No individual or group, even in the name of the state, has the right to seize people’s homes and land by force and distribute them to others without a decision from a legitimate court and payment of an equivalent price.”
The head of Afghanistan’s mission to the United Nations has said that the Taliban’s discriminatory treatment of Afghan citizens, especially in the area of settlement of nomads, is not only a violation of justice, but has also exacerbated ethnic divisions, increased distrust, and strengthened the atmosphere of hostility and division among the people.
Faiq has said that “nomads are undoubtedly part of the Afghan nation and, like other citizens, they should be provided with a living environment within the framework of law, justice, and consultation with local residents, and not through force, threats, and ethnic favoritism.”
He has added that in the absence of a legitimate, law-based, and accountable government, such decisions are not only illegal and illegitimate, but also increase the risk of tension, instability, and conflict in society.
Mr. Faiq continued: “The Taliban spokesman who promised to build shelters for the deprived in Bamyan, how can he confiscate the houses and lands of the deprived people today? If you cannot build, at least do not take the houses and lands of the people.”
After a legal dispute was resolved in favor of the nomads, the Taliban displaced 25 families in the village of “Rashk” in Pushta Gharghari, Punjab district of Bamyan two days ago.
Local sources reported to the daily Ettelaat Rooz that a delegation of the Taliban along with the nomads came to this village and threw the belongings and furniture of the local residents out of their homes and locked the houses.
This action by the Taliban has been met with widespread reactions from citizens and activists in the country and has been considered in line with the policy of land grabbing and forced displacement of the Hazaras.
