Fatal accident in Ghor; UN convoy vehicle kills two girls

Local officials from Ghor province say that a convoy of UN vehicles ran over two girls in the city of Firuzkooh, the provincial capital, and both died.
Speaking to Tahawul, Maulvi Mohammad Hamas, the head of information at the Ghor Information and Culture Department, said that the incident occurred on Monday evening (July 20) in the “Gaw Mork” hill in the vicinity of Firuzkooh, the provincial capital.
He stressed that the incident occurred when a convoy of vehicles from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and its security team were passing through the area and unintentionally ran over two young girls.
He added that both children were members of the same family who lost their lives in the incident.
Sources also named the victims as Asuda, eight, and Setayesh, four.
The source said that Asudah died at the scene and her sister Setayesh died after being taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Abdul Hai Zaeem, the Taliban’s head of information and culture in Ghor, confirmed the news in an interview with local media and called for a transparent and thorough investigation into the matter.
However, BBC Persian also wrote today that the United Nations said that no UN vehicle was involved in the traffic accident in Ghor that killed two girls.
Matthew Duncan, a UN employee, said that “a Taliban vehicle was involved in a traffic accident on Monday during a mission in Ghor that was escorting UN vehicles.”
He stressed that no UN vehicles were involved in the incident.
