300,000 Children Deprived of Education Following U.S. Aid Cuts to Afghanistan, IRC warns
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has warned in a report that the reduction of U.S. financial aid to Afghanistan has disrupted access to education for approximately 300,000 children.
The report, released yesterday (Friday, April 25), emphasizes that Taliban restrictions on women and girls have also exacerbated social harm and disrupted education in many areas.
According to the IRC report, modern education programs that were previously implemented in parts of Afghanistan will be halted until 2025 due to budget shortages.
The IRC stated that the reduction in international aid, especially from the United States — Afghanistan’s largest donor — has also put relief organizations at risk of shutting down.
The IRC warned that the suspension of financial support has affected not only education but also access to vital services such as medical care, cash assistance, and support programs that are essential for extremely impoverished individuals.
The IRC has called on the international community to take immediate action to prevent the collapse of support systems in Afghanistan.
The U.S. president,Donald Trump, suspended all American financial aid in February. Following this decision, many aid organizations funded by U.S. contributions have limited or ceased their operations.
