
Taliban: 36 Killed and 40 Injured in Floods
According to the statistics of the Afghanistan Disaster Management Authority under Taliban control, at least 36 people have died and 40 others have been injured due to heavy rainfall and floods over the past two days. These events have also resulted in the complete destruction of 240 houses and partial damage to 61 other homes, while hundreds of acres of agricultural land have been ruined.
In the Poshtkoh district of Farah province, two families who had gone to the mountains for recreation became trapped in a flood, resulting in the deaths of 20 people and injuries to 4 others.
Local sources report that in the Farahrod, Bakwa, and Bala Buluk districts of the province, floods claimed the lives of 3 people and caused significant financial losses.
Meanwhile, according to “Hafiz Abdul Bari Rashid,” the Taliban’s head of information and culture in Helmand, the floods on Tuesday, 25th February, in the districts of Sangin, Musa Qala, and Garmsir resulted in casualties. Rashid stated that in the Shahzada area of Sangin district, the collapse of a house’s roof led to the death of two children, and in Musa Qala, 3 people died due to the floods.
He further added that in Garmsir district, lightning struck a house, injuring 6 members of a family.
Local sources in Kandahar also report that in the Shamulikot district, a “Wigo” vehicle was swept away by the flood, and the bodies of two missing individuals were found this morning. Local Taliban officials in Kandahar have refrained from making comments, but the officials of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department have reported “extensive human and financial losses” in the province.
The Taliban Disaster Management Authority has stated that assessment teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to conduct a detailed investigation of the damage. However, further details regarding the identity of the victims or the precise extent of agricultural land destruction have not been provided.
