28 Killed in Floods and Heavy Rains in Farah and Kandahar

Local Taliban officials in Farah Province confirmed that 21 people were killed and 5 others injured due to heavy rains and floods in the Qala-e-Gah district of the province.

Mawlawi Mohammad, head of incident response in Farah, stated that the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 25, when three families went to the mountains for recreation and were suddenly caught in flash floods. The victims included men, women, and children.

Meanwhile, local sources in Kandahar Province reported that three teenage girls (aged 19, 16, and 15) drowned in a stream in the Shoorandam area of the city’s Fifth Zone while washing clothes. In addition, four more people lost their lives in Kandahar due to floods the same day, bringing the total death toll across the two provinces to 28.

Taliban authorities in Kandahar have yet to issue an official statement regarding these incidents.

These disasters coincide with severe weather conditions affecting other parts of the country, including road closures in central regions due to snowfall and financial losses in the south.

The tragedies underscore the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and emergency response systems in vulnerable areas. Both provinces remain in critical condition as heavy rains and floods continue to pose threats.
